Why we're bringing manufacturing to the UK...

3 minute read

This last year has been one of the craziest years on record for us. Not only did we have to steer our business through a pandemic but in the middle of the mayhem we chose to move majority of our cap production from the Far East to the UK in a bid to reduce our carbon footprint and produce more sustainable and quality products.

Over the years as a brand we've come to understand a lot of the environmental impacts caused by the fashion industry. 10% of humanities global emissions are caused by clothing manufacturing which is more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined and we believe that something has to change.

As a brand based on the love of the outdoors we want to champion sustainable and responsible manufacturing which in turn helps protect our planet and the spaces that we love. It's also important at this stage for us to highlight that unfortunately not all of our products can be made in the UK due to some of the materials used however where we can we will always source manufacturing locally and all off shore manufacturing is sourced from trusted factories and now sea freighted rather than airfreighted to reduce our emmissions.

The carbon footprint of some of our best selling products bothered us. To ensure we used quality material in our caps we would often air freight our material from the UK to the Far East for construction then air freight the finished product back to the UK. Investing in UK manufacturing means that our material now has only a 25min journey to our new manufacturers based in Yorkshire which reduces our carbon emissions by the equivalent of boiling 56,655 cups of coffee per restock. In addition to this, the peaks of all of our new 5 panel caps will be made from recycled plastic meaning no virgin plastic will be included in our new range of British hats!

Manufacturing locally gives us more control over what and how much we produce helping break the fast fashion cycle of producing large quantities of stock. We are now able to react quicker and only produce what sells reducing over production and waste. Our bottom line will always be the planet, we still have a long way to go to achieving our sustainability goals but manufacturing in the UK has ticked one huge box off the list!
